Soup Troupe & The Really Small Theatre Company are proud to present
the first ever performance of the English version of
Written in 1893, Sylvi reflects the mores and preoccupations of the time – although it was ahead of its time. It is a tale of marital disharmony, passion and betrayal lurking behind a façade of respectability, and Sylvi pays the price.
The production is a tribute to Minna Canth, to her writing and her progressive feminist views. We are presenting Sylvi as a period piece in language and style, with specially arranged musical accompaniment. Don’t miss it!

The current COVID-19 situation in Finland is stable but unpredictable. Like all theatre, we are subject to event guidelines set by the government, and these are subject to change dependant upon the infection rate. Indoor events are presently restricted to a 500 person maximum and must ensure social distancing and hygiene guidelines are adhered to. Malmitalo have the following procedures in place:
Government guidelines recommend the wearing of masks at public venues. The purpose of wearing a mask is to protect others from possible infection, not to protect yourself. As such we go further and strongly request that you wear masks at our performances.
These procedures will be reviewed continually throughout 2021 or if government guidelines force changes.
We are proceeding with the production under the assumption that it will take place with restrictions of some kind in place. If there is any risk to audience safety, either Malmitalo or our production team will cancel/reschedule the production (as we have done once already).
